Best spa hotels in Romania

Even if Romania is seen as a cheap destination and you can get the most of it on a budget, you can also to see Romania in style, e.g in the selected spa hotels or taking part to a spa tour.

Traditionally, a few areas in Romania simply lie on a big underground hot sea due to the geothermal energy, and there are some less or more successfully attempts to produce heat from these waters. Well renowned for these hot thermal waters are the areas around Oradea and Baile Herculane.

Oradea(Nagyvarad in Hungarian)  itself is a charming city very close to the western border, simply lieing on thermal waters. Very close to Oradea, practically next to it you can find the resorts of Baile Felix (or Felixbad in German) or Baile 1 Mai with many spa hotels, open baths and swimming pools where you can cure your rheumatic diseases. You can also allow you to be spoiled there in an exquisite environment, e.g in the leading hotel International, the best from Baile Felix, a proud and a landmark of this beloved resort. The hotel proudly looks behind on 40 years history, but you won't believe or suspect it when you are going to see the brilliant International itself! Also possible: the fantastic rejuvenating cures based on Gerovital treatments!
The fantastic hotel Double tree by Hilton Oradea has an excellent position, and inside is even more convincing than outside

Inside the beautiful city of Oradea you have another promising opportunity: the brand new spa hotel Double Tree by Hilton. It is much newer, more modern and comfy than the respectable International, has all the last minute ammenities, but the team from International seemed to me being friendlier! Under these circumstances it is really easy to understand: you have a star more, and must be prepared to pay more at hotel Double Tree by Hilton from Oradea.
The pension Noblesse from Baile Herculane is very friendly and familiar

The position of Baile Herculane (or Herculesbad) is definitely better: you have mountains and forests around, the landscape is very attractive. Since thousand years renowned for the properties of its thermal and mineral waters, Baile Herculane met a few periods of blossom and prosperity. One of them, the antique times, when aristocrates from Rome came here for a sort of spa of those interesting times. Another one in the XIXth century, when members of Vienna court came here very often, despite the strong concurence of Karlovy Vary ( or Carlsbad). Nowdays there are still interesting things happening in Herculane, and one of them is the pension Noblesse in the area. It is new, good and with a fantastic friendly staff. Also not very big, and thus very familiar to its guests! You have many things to discover at pension Noblesse and around, and you are going to have only pleasant nice surprises indeed.
Let me introduce you one of the best hotels of the Romanian Riviera: Vega, Mamaia, by Constanta

At the other side of Romania, on its Black sea coast, in the fantastic city of Constanta, you can find the Hotel Vega. It is really a top reference for the Romanian Riviera, and might be appear too big if you search for familiar houses. But the people here are very friendly, and they really do much more than they should. No more thermal waters on the coast, but the spa is an event nevertheless, as also the breakfast buffet or the kitchen, broadly speaking. Really a good place for a wonderful week or more, where you can forget everything else and rediscover yourself, as a part of the Universe.

If you are prepared to jump at the next level, you must be prepared to pay for a room in these recommended spa hotels of Romania between 30 or 60 Euros in average for a day. It is really a bargain, a sort of luxury on a budget!

Most impressive sites and landscapes of Romania

Most impressive sites and landscapes of Romania

Wow, I got a theme, again about Romania. I must say, I love this country of mine, but not everything is pink in Romania. We have corrupted politicians (but what nation hasn't?), lazy people, stupid people etc. Nevertheless, even in the Sun there are stains, and Romania is subsequently a place to fall in for sure. Allow me to introduce Romania and explain why I do find it so attractive.
Danube Delta and its spectacular vegetation

Being a tour guide, I met Romania in the most remote corners and I have my personal favorites. It is really difficult to make a short list with selected sites and landscapes. Plus, I strive to deliver a neutral unbiased opinion, beyond my personal impressions, and that is why I will tell you about the internationally recognized attractions, as you can find them in the UNESCO list of the world heritage.

1. Danube Delta is simply fantastic and fabulous, I mean it. Comparable with Amazonia in a certain way, has something genuine in this more and more artificial world. But it is also huge and not very easy to discover, you need time. And you must try to discover it in full as an unit: people living in isolated villages; rare birds and interesting exotic plants. Also amazing and to mention is the fish soup, be sure to try it, tastes really different.
Happy people during their Romanian trip

2.The antique Dacian fortresses from Orastie Mountains, by Deva. You need patience and must be in a good shape, you must climb some mountains. But these remote citadelles show how much did Romania for the mankind: they are older than the Roman Empire, who conquered Dacia, as a half of the world. The heroic and desperate fight of the Dacians gave birth to a few heroes (the Dacian king Decebal comitted suicide) and many legends (the hidden treasure of The King Decebal is still being searched in the area).
This is a wooden church from Maramures

3.The wooden churches from Maramures started from the interdiction of building from other raw material than wood. The Romanians should obey, but made some masterpiece! Many of those churches are between 50-70 metres and really impressive.

4.The painted monasteries from the Northern Moldavia are simply unique due to the perfect harmony between them and the environment. If you are in Voronet watching its significant blue of Voronet ( similar with green of Veronese or Red of Tizian) the sky blue will overwhelm you afterwards.
This worlwide renowned blue of Voronet has a still secret and undiscovered recipe, probabli based on lapis lazuli powder

5.The fortified churches from Transilvania. When invaders, e.g. Tartars, Turks etc came, they were of course in a hurry, and didn't allow themselves to wait. A few days, maybe even hours, have been decissive for the survival of the communities and its members. The Saxons (Germans from Transilvania) build a lot of fortified churches ( about 150) where they should wait until the Barbarians are gone.

Best Spa Tours in Romania

Usually, when taking a spa vacation, you go in a certain place and care about yourself. All the people spoils you, but you are supposed to respect strictly the treatment procedures and a certain way of life (e.g. no more than a glass of wine at every meal. Let it be a Merlot from Recas!)

Such cures usually last for ever. I mean, after the scheduled 3 weeks, you are going to feel a deep relief. It is really a new life, and you will leave Romania richer with a few revelations. Try practicing yoga during your treatment, it is really  great! And, much more important, keep practicing afterwards, while keeping the same way of life. It is not very difficult, and will make you feel so great. There are so many possibilities for undergoing specialized treatments in Romania, starting from fighting rheumatism and up to the wellness rejuvenating cure. Ask about all the details whether me, or Karpaten Turism, the best Romanian incoming agency.
The exquisite Spa Hotel Belvedere in Govora

But, supposing you are very healthy, at the peak of your performance, wishing simply let the people spoil you in the Romanian spa and wellness resorts. Staying three weeks in only one location could seriously ruin your shape, and this is the reason for the proposition I am going to make you, namely a Romania Spa Tour. And I am sure it is the best possible, believe me, as I know what say.

Start your trip with a few days on the Romanian coast, in  Eforie Nord or Techirghiol. Even these days, off the season, a few exquisite spa resorts from these resorts are opened, welcoming their guests.  They will totally spoil you with spa, wellness, exquisite meals( never ask horse meat) and distinguished service. Play the King or the Queen, please! Leaving these hotels falls always tough, but we still have some destination to discover in Romania.
Hercules used to come in Herculane searching a  good rest

On the way from Constanta to Bucharest, have a longer or shorter break in Amara, by Slobozia. This is a small spa resort, off the beaten path, but its mud is really making wonders against rheumatism. Don't stay in Bucharest this time, drive rather to Ramnicu Valcea, and discover very close some renowned spa retreats, like Govora, Olanesti, Caciulata with their fantastic salt waters. Jump simply inside, and swim (there is practically no effort needed!) and you will be able to make the difference very soon!

But the crowned queen of the Romanian spa is Herculane, where Hercules himself used to have a break between its labours! Stay other few days there, in one of the old stylish spa hotels and enjoy the perfect atmosphere, a strange combination of Austrian monarchy and an overwhelming present. Very particular in Herculane is even the vegetation: typically subtropical. You can also discover it at your pace on the Domoglet mountain! The waters have been exploited here for 2000 years, and are mainly thermal and mineral.

If you think that the above mentioned places are not enough, I might have more, e.g. the renowned Felix and the smaller Bazna, off the beaten path! But believe me, there are a lot of things and to do during your Romania Spa Tour, no chance to get bored! Further, I can tailor the Tour according to your budget and wishes.
