Try to understand Romania before visiting it

Whether you are for the first time in Romania, or the tenth, you are simply supposed to take a few time to understand thoroughly the country forehand.
Romania is not at all exclusively a Dracula land, but an interesting culture destination

And you must do that because Romania is not only the land of Dracula or the land of Ceausescu. We have an interesting history, and during the Middle Age there were three Romanian principates, namely Moldavia, Vallachia and Transilvania, which have been influenced by the neighboring empires, respectively Russian, Othoman and Austrian. It took a few centuries to understand the simple fact of our unity, and afterwards to realise this unity through successive and successfully unifications. Most of our heroes fought bravely for Unification, against the overmentioned Empires. In every Romanian city there is one street or square reffering to the Unification (Piata Unirii, or Bulevardul Unirii). During the XIXth century France was a model for all Europe, including Romania. Our language is anyway a Romanic one, and the culture is very close to the French culture.
Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife have ruled Romania in a dictatorial way for 24 years. We could barely stand and survive, due to our sense of humor

We are proud of our past and history, and not so proud anymore about our political class of today, which is not patriot enough. On the contrary, they are corrupted enough, it is a national disease, despite all the progress in fighting it of the last years. But these are our problems, you must know them and be aware of them, but never try to mix in any political discussion. It simply makes no sense, and brings no friends. You must have your own problems in your country for sure, as every country has!
Calea Victoriei, the most interesting and beautiful street of Bucharest, has undoubtly a French charm

Also very important, the country is not very expensive, unless you make special choices. One beer in a pub costs between 2 and 4 euros, with 5 euros you can have a satisfactory lunch. Romania is also not very rich yet, the average income is about 500 Euros netto monthly. And that is why you must avoid the touristic destinations, they are much more expensive than the popular ones. If you have a good travel guide, you can easily find the second ones!
Please avoid in Romania the beaten paths, and you can see these wonderful suits on the streets

We are people with a sharp developped sense of humor, and this was really useful during bad and hard times, e.g. the communist Ceausescu era! Otherwise we couldn't stand and survive it, it was terrible: no food, no fun, but only a lot of jokes, most of them refering to Ceausescu and his wife. Some of us are simply missing those times, as we can't hear so many fabulous jokes.

In vino veritas, something about the Romanian wines

The ancient Romans defeated the local Dacians in the II.nd century a.C. and in this way started the history of the Romanian people and language.
A glass of wine is such a nice way expressing the joy of life

Really difficult to find out today what is Roman and what is Dacian in the today Romanian people and no one should waste his/her time with this impossible task. Fact is, that in every Romanian city you will find a Traian street, as a Decebal street. They were the rulers, they clushed one against other and Decebal commited suicide after his defeat.
Did Dracula love wine? We still must research

Thinking about wine, it wasn't totally unknown to the Dacians, but the Romans brought new sorts and started many new plantations. It was decisive for the Romanians, we love wine here. It is very similar with other wine countries who were once provinces of the Roman Empire: France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Even today Romania is among the first 10 producers worldwide, and large wine regions of the country live in Autumn fantastic celebrations. Every one is happy there, due to the wine.
In some parts of the country the wineyard becomes monoculture

Coming back on land and to the present days, a first tip is to let the wine accompanying your Romanian vacation. I would recommend at least a glass of wine at every meal (breakfast is excepted, please). White, red, or rose you must pair it correctly with the main dish. Sometimes the waiter, chef or somelier can recommend you something. Sometimes you can try to taste the house wine (or vinul casei, every good restaurant has something like that). The bottle wine is of course not so cheap, but sometimes you can allow yourself and your company something special. A glass of house wine should cost up to 10 Lei (3 -4 Euros), while a bottle could have many different prices. In fact, a bottle of good local wine should be around 10 Euros.
Even to a wine tasting you must respect some basic rules

Fist of all, watch your glass of wine, it should be clear, cristal clear. After a soft agitation, watch it again, the film should be continuos, uninterrupted. After that you don't need your eyes anymore, may be is advisable to close them. Now smell and taste it, let it walk inside your mouth to discover all the secret notes. It is really wonderful. If you are to a professional taste, don't swallow any drop, spill it, whatever difficult could it be. Despite all this procedure, after 3 or 4 glasses you are drunk due the taste and absorbtion through the tongue!

Our Roman ancestors were not stupid at all, when they said In vino veritas! The simple fact is, that after one glass of wine everybody is more communicative and starts to unveil some possible secrets. I don't remember anymore what happens after the other glasses. The Romanian said something different: everybody is entitled to a glass of wine. Afterwards becomes another man, which is again entitled to a glass of wine!

Best ways to discover Danube Delta

For such a natural wonder as Danube Delta you need some extra time. But you will be fully rewarded, it is an unique event you should live on your own.

Danube Delta, still an oasis of untouched nature
Watch the map of Danube Delta, and think  to a little detail: this landscape is  changing right now, in this very moment. It is a fantastic and fascinating fight between land and water. Watch it, feel it, smell it, hear it. It is unbelievable alive, and you are a part of it.
Lonely pelicans in the Danube Delta are very seldom; usually these birds are very social, and even catch the fish in pack

If you plan to fly to Romania, the first landing option is Bucharest (allow you an extra time for Bucharest City Break). I would say, time is becoming the most important matter, you are going to need it. Then go by bus or by train from Bucharest to Tulcea, it will last 4, respectively 5 hours. Once you arrived in Tulcea, which is actually a turning point for Danube Delta, you have two options: whether you stay there (hotel Europolis for budget, hotel Delta for class!) or you go further by boat or by car, in the very heart of the savage Delta. There are a few hotels, but not all of them are to recommend because of certain reasons.
Hotel Wels and its fantastic location

I discovered since a short time a good hotel which lies only 25 km away from Tulcea, and is reachable both, by car or by boat. It is friendly atmosphere there, in Hotel Wels, which is not very big and far from the beaten path of mass tourism. It has a wonderful location, combined with a good service and a friendly staff.
A trip deep inside in Danube Delta, courteousy of Hotel Wels

When I discovered the Hotel Wels it was Autumn, magnificent colours all around, but too late for bird watching, most of them were far away. But I can still remember my trips from the hotel in the most remote and savage places of the Danube Delta (you must pay extra, of course, but it really worth every penny). And I could also visit Sulina (once a very important city), or Tulcea with its museums. I had a wonderful time, I can perfectly remember everything, including the cooker and its fabulous fish soup.
Please remember: Romania is not only Dracula land, but also the blessed land of Danube Delta

How to enjoy more and better your Romanian tour

Supposing, just supposing, that you finally booked your trip to Romania, after long discussions  with your wife, mother in law, children or your possible travel mates. Not a surprise, everyone had another approach, opinion and interest.
Romania is before anything else a Dracula land. You won't miss this sensation for sure.

But supposing that you finally booked, but what comes next will be definitely much more complicated and much more difficult, as you must make from your Romanian trip an event and a success. And by the way, due to the cancellation fees there's no way back, you must go straight on and visit Romania. But I can tell you something: it will be any effort worth, and you won't regret any penny or cent spent for it.
Some Romanian towns and cities have a downtown with a fantastic medieval touch (here Sighisoara)

If you are on your own, also only you and perhaps your family, try to visit a Romanian village. You will find plenty of them, almost a half of the Romanian population still leaves to the countryside. And most of Romanians, as any other normal people, have a nostalgy and respect for traditional values, for the way of life of a few decades or centuries ago. I can suggest you now the wonderful location of Bazna, in Transilvania, close to Medias and not far from Sibiu. It is amazing quiet and peaceful, a good opportunity to forget the modern life and make a digital detox (I mean you should forget any gadgets and devices, even computers). And another suggestion is lodging to Casa Bazna, a good pension with friendly stuff.
We, Romanians, love and esteem rural life, even if we don't rule it anymore (here the Village Museum from the Capital city of Bucharest)

If you are going to travel in a group, besides the incoveniences possibly caused by other travelers, you have also a few advantages: organisation, program, travel guide (don't think necessary to me, there are a lot of qualified travel guides in Romania). Check nevertheless what he does, it is normal (hotels, menus, entries etc), but if you mind that he is a reliable person, do that, rely on him! Take part to the extra trips, if the time allow it, and follow any other of him/her proposal. He is normally a friendly, correct and reliable person, as the most of Romanians are. If you are so unlucky to get an exception, don't allow him to spoil totally your trip, and tell what you dislike. Sometimes a simple friendly discussion can solve almost anything.
Fabulous landscape in the Romanian Carpathians (Cheile Bicazului)

Besides, you can try under certain circumstances to behave and act like a local. It will for sure only until you open your mouth and speak. If you did your homework correctly and played your role in a satisfying manner, it is most probably that the Romanians will be disappointed. Never mind, and please don't take personally, and remember some magic words "Va rog" (please) or "Multumesc"(thank you). Any Romanian will adore if you do that, they will appreciate your time and work for achieving it. Count with a private dinner invitation further, and enjoy your new connection.
Casa Bazna is a small pension with fantastic friendly service within the village of Bazna

Et in Arcadia ego! It was actually Romania

Is really nice to live in Romania for sure. Sometimes not very easy, when thinking to politics or other big problems and issues we must face, but any country must experience something similar, I guess.
The ancient history and its many legends: Sarmizegetusa is the former Capital of Dacia

Anyway, I love this country of mine very much, and I like introducing it to the foreigners, my beloved guests. Really think sometimes to have a dream job: wonderful country, friendly interested guests and the strongest Romanian incoming agency as an excellent partner. Thus all the necessary conditions are being filed.
Only 5 % OF THE OLD FORTRESS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO LIGHT, AND THE REST IS WAITING FOR YOU

And as a supplement we have something more: the spell, the legends, the history. It is really amazing, the guests are really fascinated by this country of mine, and I am very grateful to them for this thing. Of course, all other Romanians feel the same. We are a strong proud nation, sharing gladly the natural beauty of this country.

Another simply fact: since the oldest times was Romania the same. The ancient Romans led by Traian conquered the Daciams, and so came to light the Romanian people. And the same Romans used to call the province Dacia felix. Quod erst demonstratum.

You can discover in the Romanian Carpathians the ancient citadels of our ancestors, and the best known of it is Sarmizegetusa Regia. The acces road is being rebuild, and that means you have the best conditions for the next year (not all the plans run in Romania smoothly, but let's hope this one will do).
Landscape in the Romanian Carpathian, a natural fortress

You will find there a round sanctuary having an unknown astronomic signification. You can digg, as some treasure hunters also do, for the gold collection of the old King Decebal. By the way, Decebal is a national hero, who commited suicide after the Roman conquest. Be sure to find in any Romanian city a Decebal street and a Traian street, together with  a Lupa Capitolina (The wolf female from Rome nourishing Romulus and Remus) as a remember to the Roman roots of the Romanians.

I hope you enjoyed this brief introduction in the Romanian history, and hope to come again soon with other chapters. Besides, there are many other things to discover in Romania, it is also a country for the today people, and not only for history fans.

Visit Romania only if...

you wanna have a big time. Romania will mean an event for you for sure, and you are going to have a big time.
The folklore and the popular music could be also a reason to visit Romania

Visit Romania only if you really enjoy life. You are going to have in Romania very good human contacts, the Romanians are friendly people, always happy to have guests and proud to show them everything. Many of them are also ready to give you everything, as to their good friends. And it really means everything, clothes and suits.
In Romania we still use the horses in agriculture, forest exploitation etc

Visit Romania only if you want to discover something special. Half of the population still lives to the countryside, and sometimes not in the best conditions! Nevertheless, they will welcome you from all their heart with bread and salt, in the good traditional way. Many hotels will also receive you with a glass of wine.
Romania means a rich culture, before anything else. Here the painted monastery from Moldovita with the expert explanations of a sister

Visit Romania only if you have at least one week free. It is a medium sized country, with 237 000 sqkm and 21 Millions inhabitants. There are many interesting tours lasting one week, e.g. at Karpaten, the biggest incoming company .If you have less time to your disposal, make a city break in Bucharest, or other big city of Romania. Many of them are really fantastic due of their architecture and historic artefacts.
The Roamanian gastronomy is rich, tasty and affordable. No chance to get any weight off

Visit Romania only if you plan to come here again. This is the usually way the tourists follow: come as guest, leave as a friend and come back! The time for a trip to Romania is always too short, and there are a plenty new things to discover at every step. And a new perspective might be the good one, if you understand what I mean. Romania is surprisingly and charming.

These all above mentioned are a few of the most important things to visit Romania. It really worths, believe me and make a try!

Romania's most amazing roads and its fantastic mountains

If you can watch a map of Romania, you would note the mountains acting a real spine. The Romanian Carpathians really do this wonderful task, they are a portant and protecting column of the all country.

Easy walk in the Romanian mountains
Not very monumental high (the peak Moldoveanu measures 2531 meters) they did not stop significantly the mutual relations, cooperation and trade between the Romanian historical provinces of Moldavia, Wallachia and Transilvania. According newer theories, the Romanian people itself formed and lived long time in the mountains, and only afterwards descended on the plains due to the shrinking food.
A well deserved break, while exploring the mountains

Many of the most renowned Romanian resorts, starting with Poiana Brasov, lie in the wonderful Carpathians. In most of them you can normally ski under best conditions. We are very fond of our mountains, and the locals simply adore winter sports (e.g. the Szekler, a compact minority, are very good in ice hockey). Nowadays in the Romanian Carpathians you can still find large population of wolves, bears and lynxes, and they are the last European ones.
Peles cstle, in the mountains, was an elegant royal residence

You have paths, you have cabins in the Romanian mountains, you can walk and climb as you wish. Special mention for the Bucegi Mountains by Brasov where happened a serie of paranormal phenomena. If you are not afraid of such things, you can search it on your own, but I must warn you: there are huge energies released in that area, it is not going to be easy.
Transfagarasan road, at over 2000 meters height, is one of the world's most spectacular highways

Further you can find in the mountains a few well kept fortresses. One of them is that of Rasnov/Rosenau protecting the town of Rasnov. Another eagles nest is the Bran Palace, also known as Dracula palace, with its fantastic view to the way and its wonderful legends. More elevated is the Peles Palace hosting today a wide exhibition about architecture and art, broadly speaking.
Fantastic view, took from Transalpina

Last but not least, you can find in the Romanian mountain two of the world's most spectacular roads: Transfagarasan and Transalpina. If you consider to be in a perfect shape, you can walk or ride a bike along those spectacular roads. Bear in mind to inform yourself about the state of the roads, during a year they are mostly closed due to heavy snowfalls.

You can start your real adventure in the Romanian mountains very soon, in march, and you won't regret it at all.

Romania for Beginners and Greenhorns

In any aspect must be a first time, and Romania is not an exception. Your first time in Romania must be totally special, unbelievable, sensational. I would dedicate this report to all the people who really love and care about Romania, whether Romania or foreigners, but the target are the people who dare to dream about visiting Romania.
Urban life in Bucharest, Romania

Romania is special, and the Romanian are broadly speaking very special. We are proud, very proud, about our beloved country which is not among the richest countries in Europe or in the all world, and we strive to preserve our standards. More than anything we love to describe Romania and its legends to you, dear visitor coming for the first time in Romania.
If you visit the Danube Delta, please preserve and protect it

Romania and the Romanians are not easy predictable, e.g. the fall of Ceausescu or the election of Klaus Iohannis as Romanian President (he is Romanian, born here as a member of the German minority). You should be aware, dear Beginner and Greenhorn in Romania: despite your thoroughful documentation, the reality is much more interesting comparing with what you might have read.
Sensations in Romania: Dracula legends and the follow of its traces.

Further, you bust have read dear firstimer in Romania about our natural wonders and parks. The Carpathian Mountains  in Romania host some fantastic forest, unbelievable well preserved. And within these forests you are going to find the last significant European populations of bears, wolwes, lynxes or chamois, which former dictator Ceausescu used to hunt. No joking, due to these populations Ceausescu became one of the most renowned hunters worldwide.
In some parts of the country, these traditional ports are still belonging to the daily life

Don't need to mention anything more about Danube Delta. It is for sure a natural paradise familiar to you, neverending source of crazy unbelievable stories and legends. Imagine the locals, which are sometimes totally away from the civilization we love so much, without to suffer. They live very lonely and isolated and are unbeatable fishermen with a respectable knowledge. Really unforgettable if you eat a simply fish soup in the Danube Delta cooked by one of these local masters!

In some places Romania is an opened book, you must only look carefully around (Fortress of Prejmer/Tartlau)
Dear beginner and greenhorn in Romania, you are not supposed to be a nature freak or a lonely wolf if you pay us your honorable visit, but on the contrary. Please remember that we have an intense urban life in Bucharest, our capital, or other big cities, with plenty of museums or architecture monuments. You can also go shopping in Romania, follow Dracula traces and legends or stay in a good hotels. We also have some exquisite wines and an interesting kitchen with different influences you must guess!

Happy foreigner tourists in Romania (Brasov/Kronstadt)
Remember one thing, dear visitor: most important than anything in Romania are the Romanians themselves. They will love you, spoil you, pamper you and if you feel the same you will surely come the second and third time in this blessed country.

Romania for firsttimers

Dear people wishing to visit Romania for the first time, I must warn you. It won't be the last, most of the people react in this way, due to the beauties of this legendary country.

First of all you are going to love the people. They are normal, lovely, always ready to help, have a fantastic sense of humor and very happy to receive you as a guest of honor. If you reach the deep, legendary and eternal Romania at the countryside everyone there will try to invite you to the dinner. It is really amazing this joy of life coming from inside; unfortunately under these circumstances you are going to hurt some people, refusing their invitations!
In Bucharest you can discover some pearls of architecture, here is one of the city's oldest and most beautiful fountains: Cantacuzino

There is almost no possibility to stay on a diet in this blessed country. Everything begins with the tomatoes, they taste and flavors totally different with what you are eating normally, we still don't use so much chemicals in our agriculture. And our kitchen relies mostly on tomatoes, many of our favorite dishes contains tomatoes, we simply love this taste. Further you should also know that we eat a lot of bread, we are simply champions world wide at this chapter. But please don't worry, no one will try to push or force you to addiction on these bad habits we might have. On the contrary, we, the proud Romanians, are ones of the most tolerant people on the Earth.
Bucharest never forgets to be the Capital of a rural land: The Museum of The Romanian peasant is one of the most interesting and exciting of the all Romania

And this tolerance has been more times shown and proofed during our millenial long history. Reffering to the very present days I could say that we have a strong Hungarian minority, which is very respected and beloved, you can visit it right in the middle of Romania, with their special gastronomy. We also have a small shrunken German community, but from this community we elected our next President, namely Klaus Iohannis. I hope to have you convinced, don't need to talk more about it. Sometimes the Romanians like to much to talk and chat, we are very closed to the Meridionals due to our Latin origin.
90 % of the Romanian population are Orthodoxe, and visiting an Orthodoxe church is a must do

Coming back to the Romanian gastronomy, you are going to observe and even taste the different influences exerted to us. On one side the Balkanic and Turkish influence (moussaka, baclava etc. for the fine tasters). On other side the Western influence and the international cuisine. You won't starve in Romania for sure, whether if you are a vegan, vegetarian or eat everything. And again I won't say more, allowing you to discover by yourself the gastronomic Romania, as it is almost noon! Nevertheless, a short mention about Romanian wines, which are simply fantastic.
The painted churches of Bucovina are one of the highlights in Romania, I am sure you are going to love them (here is the church of Voronet, actually the most picturesque and beautiful)

You are going to find a lot of things to do in Romania, whether you travel solo or with your family. In Bucharest and other major cities we have good theaters and interesting Christmas markets, as also interesting museums or leading hotels and restaurants. We also have a natural genuine Romania, with a few highlight like Danube Delta, The Carpathians with their paths and forests. Even the Romanian hills and plains are picturesque and interesting.

I hope to have been enough convincing, you can book right now over one of the most renowned travel agency in Romania. I am going to be proud and delighted to be your travel guide here.

How to explore Romania like a pro

I can give you now another major reason for visiting Romania: we have a freshly elected President, whose name is Klaus Iohannis. he is a Romanian German, e.g a member of a minority counting 1 % of the population. We can prove hereby that in Romania the democracy works efficiently, and hope also that the emigrated Romanian Germans could come back.
The wonderful city of Brasov is waiting for you very friendly

If you want to know Romania like a pro, start please from the Capital Bucharest, you can surely fly there. Bucharest will charm and spell you with its strong temper and tough personality. Counting 2,3 Millions people, Bucharest is one of the major cities of the European community, and also a spectacular one. Once known as the Little Paris, due to our strong affinities with the French culture, Bucharest is the sixth biggest city of the E.U., a little bit bigger than Budapest and Vienna. Don't miss it, it is a must, a good start for any visit in Romania.
Danube Delta is a natural endless paradise

Further you can continue your trip to Romania with one of the major big cities like Constanta, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara or Craiova in order to get a fine picture of the urban life in Romania. Another recommendation would be the cities of Sibiu/Hermannstadt or Brasov/Kronstadt. In the first of it Klaus Iohannis started his political career, leading it for 12 years as a Mayor. We all hope that within 12 years Romania will look the way that Sibiu looks today. It is really a major task and responsability for Mr. Klaus Iohannis.
Downtown Bucharest with a statue of Dracula and the ruins of Middle age court

But further you must discover the deep eternal Romania. You must go therefore to the countryside, where today still lives a half of the Romanian population. Don't expect that all the village in Romania will spoil you with modern ammenities, but the friendliness of the locals will compensate it, making the difference. You will notice here the natural way of life and the well kept traditions, some of them are simply turning to unique events.
Discover the eternal fascinating Romania and its wonderful people to the countryside

These are the highlights of people and land from Romania. Further you can explore like a pro some very interesting cultural sites, Romania is one of the best culture destination you can find on Earth. Visit for example the painted monasteries of Moldavia, or the peasant' fortified churches  of Transivania. Visit also The Danube Delta and the Black Sea coast, or take a walk in the Carpathian mountains. Visit a vineyard and taste some wine (it is a wine country for sure) or an orchard. After a few days you will probably experience a strange feeling, between love, gratitude and belonging.
The Bucharest Triumph Arch has a Paris model and is one of the major reason for calling Bucharest "The Little Paris"

How to behave in Romania correctly if you are a stranger tourist

Visiting  Romania must run smoothly and gently, it is a wonderful country with interesting people. Whether you come privately, or over a renowned travel agency, you should remember a few things  while you are in Romania.
Another happy friendly Romanian, as we all are

First of all, the people are really fantastic. If you are going to behave yourself in the right way, most of them will be prepared to give all their clothes, literally. Please don't understand wrong, I mean hereby that you can count of them as on your best friends. Nevertheless, check your bills in the restaurants, following the outside patterns some of them will try to charge you with a thick tip!
We are a happy wine country, see here some of my tourists during a wine taste. They all learned to say "Noroc"(cheers!)

Besides, even in this country when the people have an excellent behavior and none incidents against foreign tourists have been reported, you may not go alone in a few suburbs (e.g. Ferentari in Bucharest is very poor and dangerous). If a policeman will dare to stop you, you are supposed to be polite and pacient, which shall not mean showing him your purse or giving him your credit card number.

It is usually here to kiss the hand of a woman, and if you do that, all the Romanian ladies will be watching you much more interested than if you don't. It is a flavor of our culture. If you will be able to speak a few Romanian words, all of us will love for ever! Besides, the love may not be bought, you don't need to give tips bigger than 10 % (an average Romanian wins monthly between 300 and 400 Euros, no more).
Impressive:90 % of the Romanians are Orthodox, and you should take your time and visit one of the selected churches or monasteries, which are really masterpieces

Speak to the people, they are friendly and will answer gladly to any of your question. They are ready to help you at any moment, as they are proud of their identity and are very glad that you came here. In the restaurants, as in other places, rely on the waiters, asking them what is the best dish to order and how to pair it with the right wine (we are a wine country, but you won't be thirsty if you are a beer addicted). Never forget to say "hello" or "good bye", but is advisable to stay away from any discussion concerning politics.
The horse waggons are still largely in use in the Romanian agriculture, maybe you have the opportunity to take part to a special race!

In many places the best offers are hidden under the incomprehensible notion "meniul zilei". As you pronounciation in Romanian is probably not yet the most accurate possible, take a local (maybe a travel guide) in order to grab this offer.

On the market, you must handle a lot, pretending the wished goods are not so good or you don't need them at any price. Here is again better to receive help from a skilled local.

Otherwise, be sure to visit a fabulous country with a rich history, which is a very safe travel destination

Most memorable things to see in Romania

There are without any doubts a few necessary things to be discovered in Romania. And I don't mean hereby the UNESCO protected areas, which are really a few and came as a recognition of a fantastic country having so much to offer to the entire world.
In some pats of the country you can still discover the genuine rustic Romania, like in this photo taken in Bucharest, at the Village Museum

The Romanians are special, are different and thus so interesting to so many strangers. I don't know exactly why, because the culture or the rich long history, but we are different and I really can't express exactly the mentioned differences. We are very tolerant indeed, e.g. we have a strong Hungarian minority which is very respected and beloved, and our next President (we are having elections) is very probably to be a German Romanian, namely Klaus Iohannis, the Mayor of the city of Sibiu/Hermannstadt.
Danube Delta is really fascinating with its richness of wild life

When visiting Romania try to figure before the Middle Age, when the Romanians were mostly sheeperds, going everywhere with their herds in search of the best juicy pastures. Thus you are going to understand why we love so much the sheep cheese, might it be cas or telemea, which is really very difficult to translate, bag you pardon for keeping this Romanian words. Nevertheless, we have a few things we are not reasonable, and could not be understood, making Romania so charming, e.g. very few Romanian restaurants offer sheep, lamb or mutton in their menus.
A brillant example of the rich Romanian history: the Royal signs of power from the Dracula Palace in Bran

But please don't worry, you are not going to starve while visiting Romania, actually is very probably to put heavily on, everything is tasting excellent, almost bio and refusing a meal invitation is a matter of honor. The gastronomy itself is excellent, with many different influences and surely a strong taste. The Romanian gastronomy is based on tomatoes, but the tomatoes from Romania taste totally different comparing with what you can find in the supermarkets from anywhere. And we really strive to keep these differences, despite globalization.
Group of German tourists (among them Renate, Mechtild, Manfred) discovering Bucharest. Behind them, the huge Parliament Palace, world,s second biggest building, build by Ceausescu from his sick paranoic ambition

So, first of, discover the people, mainly to the countryside. It is amazing and memorable, even unforgettable. You will understand each other perfect, despite language barriers, if you prior drink together a glass of tzuica or wine! We are a cultivated people, probably your new friends from Romania will be able to speak your language. But they will appreciate nevertheless if you strive to learn a few words in their native language.
Well known as a Dracula land, Romania is also a fine culture destination

Besides, discover the Danube Delta, discover the Carpathians, discover the Black Sea. Discover the hills and the plains, discover the wonderful Romanian cities and a few of our best museums. All of them are really memorable and unforgettable.
